Our Human Rights Department is looking to hire a full-time legal assistant, who is able to work in a fast-paced environment. The Human Rights Group is an innovative group, dedicated to helping equity-seeking groups. A significant part of our practice involves pro bono work. You will see our human rights lawyers in the media and providing representation to parties in leading cases in our community. We invite you to be a part of that team and contribute to the community. The individual selected will work closely with Wade Poziomka, Jennifer Zdriluk and several associate lawyers.
Scope & Responsibilities
Skills & Qualifications Required
The ideal individual will have a minimum of 2+ years’ experience in the area of Human Rights/Employment Law or related fields of litigation. Experience with Labour Law and Civil Litigation would also be an asset. The ideal candidate should have experience drafting and filing various court documents, dealing with rules of civil procedure, as well as having experience dealing with both employees and employers and/or clients with time sensitive and sometimes emotionally difficult cases. The candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, have the ability to streamline processes, manage priorities to ensure all deadlines are met, be able to multi-task, complete work with great accuracy, work independently, follow instructions with minimal supervision, take initiative, and be efficient with time management.
The candidate will also possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, telephoning, emailing, answering messages, and other related skills which are necessary to draft correspondence and legal documents, schedule meetings and communicate effectively with clients, lawyers and courts.
