Nuwanthi Dias is an associate in Ross & McBride’s Wills & Estates Practice Group where she supports her clients in all matters related to estate planning, estate administration, and estate litigation. She works with families and individuals of all backgrounds to identify their end-of-life goals and plan for how they will distribute their estates to family, friends, or favourite charities in the most tax efficient way.
Nuwanthi believes in the importance of empathy, communication, and active listening in her practice. She understands that estate matters involve making long-lasting and often difficult decisions that can involve sensitive, emotional issues and even conflict. Her clients appreciate her compassionate approach and ability to help navigate complicated family dynamics while ensuring their final wishes are honoured with respect and consideration.
With nearly 29 years of experience as a lawyer, Nuwanthi practiced law in Sri Lanka, Toronto, and Ottawa before joining Ross & McBride. Her previous experience in areas of incapacity hearings, civil litigation and family law brings a well-rounded perspective to her practice.
As a lifelong learner, Nuwanthi is always striving to enhance her legal knowledge and share it with others. She is a member of the Women’s Law Association of Ontario, has presented professional development seminars for the Law Society of Ontario, and has been an active volunteer with Pro Bono Law Ontario for many years. She is also registered to sit for the Trusts & Estate Planner (TEP) designation exam, which will bring added value to her clients.
In her spare time, Nuwanthi loves to enjoy a good book with a cup of coffee, attend the theatre, cook creative dishes for her and her son, and travel to new destinations. As a nature-lover she looks forward to exploring Hamilton’s many parks, trails, and waterfalls.
